Touch-Up’s With Invisalign – A Simple Solution for Your Teeth Shifting

Bee Cave Orthodontics Invisalign for adults and kids in Austin
Shift Happens! We understand that life can get busy and you may have noticed that your teeth have shifted after you lost your retainers or slow shift has occurred over the years. If it’s been several years since you’ve had braces or Invisalign, shifting is normal and inevitable. That’s where Invisalign Touch-Up’s become extremely effective. Dr. Adriana Da Silveira uses Invisalign  to address minor alignment problems, including shifting, often in just a matter of months. If you’ve noticed some shifting in your previously straight smile, you may be wondering what’s causing it and how you can fix it. We can help! Let’s take a closer look at what can cause an orthodontic relapse and how Dr. Adriana Da Silveira can use touch-up treatment to correct it.
What are some reason’s you may benefit from a Invisalign Touch-Up?
– Not wearing a retainer
– Teeth shifting
– Aging
– Teeth Loss
– Genetics
– Teeth grinding
What are the benefits of touching up your smile?
Unlike a comprehensive treatment with Invisalign and braces, Invisalign Smile Touch-Ups can boost your smile in just three to six months, correcting issues like minor crowding, shifting, or spacing problems!
Who benefits from Touch-Up’s?
Adults and teenagers who have had braces/retainers in the past or those who have mild shifting of previously straight teeth.
Our Touch-Up aligners are easily removable for eating, drinking, and flossing, so they won’t add hassle to your daily life. Fortunately, you won’t have to worry about emergency visits for broken wires or brackets. The aligners are comfortable to wear and easy to clean, just like standard Invisalign. Although the treatment process is quick, you won’t have to attend more in-office visits with Smile Touch-Up, which leaves your schedule open for other activities.
Price?
Invisalign Touch-Ups are more affordable than you think! The cost will depend on how many aligners and the amount of movement needed to re-align your teeth.

What can I expect from treatment?
The first step of the Smile Touch-Up is receiving a consultation from our very own experienced orthodontist, Dr. Adriana Da Silveira and our team of assistants. We will take a 3D scan of your teeth and design your custom treatment plan. You’ll see a digitized model of your teeth before and after treatment, so you’ll be able to envision your new smile from day one!
Once our experts finalize your treatment plan, you’ll pick up your first round of aligners and start on your smile journey. You’ll change your trays every one to two weeks until you reach your smile goal, visiting us periodically to ensure that your treatment is on track. Your new smile may be ready in just a few months, depending on your unique case.

AFTER YOUR TOUCH-UP, MAINTAIN YOUR SMILE USING OUR VIVERA RETAINER PROGRAM
As a leading preferred provider with Invisalign, Dr. Da Silveira and her team are excited to introduce the Vivera Retainer Program through Invisalign’s Vivera Retainer Subscription Program! Wearing a retainer regularly stabilizes your bite in its ideal position, and will make sure that your teeth do not shift. After your Touch-Up (or now if you don’t need a Touch-Up), setup an appointment to receive four sets of Vivera retainers. Each set includes a clear retainer for the top and bottom.

Back To School Success

Six Ways To Take Care of Your Teeth for Back to School Success

1. Re-Establish Your Dental Routine

As you get ready to send your child back to school this week or next,  re-establish your dental routine for healthier hygiene.  In the Summer, it can be easy to miss a teeth brushing or two. However, brushing regularly is crucial to good dental hygiene. Dr. D recommends you brush 2-3 times a day and after any sweets. Pack a small bag to school each day with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to stay on track throughout the school day.

2. Schedule Your Child's Checkups

Scheduling your child’s routine and orthodontic dental visits prior to or at the start of the school year ensures that you do not forget to make the appointment when things get too busy and minimizes days missed of school.

3. Limit Your Child's Intake of Candy and Sweets

Sweet sugary candies and foods automatically increase the levels of harmful acids in the mouth, and it can take as long as 20 minutes for the saliva to neutralize those acids. It’s easy to have these treats during the Summer but plan for healthy desserts and snacks as the school year begins, including fresh fruits and veggies. Be mindful of drinks when packing lunches and choose options with little to no sugar.

Helpful Tip: If you plan to give your child candy or sweets, it’s best to do it after a meal. Afterwards, instruct your child to brush his or her teeth to remove the food particles and sugar.

4. Drink Lots of Water

Drinking lots of water – 8-10 glasses a day are recommended- will not only keep you hydrated but will also remove plaque and keep bacteria from building up.  Hydrating in this Texas heat is essential! Enough said!

5. Get to Bed Early

Lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, poor hygiene, and lack of concentration. Get plenty of sleep to be your best self when school begins! We recommend atleast 8 hours and more for younger kids.

A few extra tips below for regulating good sleep for your teenagers:

Limit caffeine. Children and teenagers’ bodies don’t need to experience increased heart rates or dehydration. Soda on a special occasion is fine, but shouldn’t be a regular part of life.

Make sure he/she gets some exercise during the day, but not too close to bed time. In fact, the end of the evening should be considered as “winding down” time, with a routine that he repeats every night.

If he/she, for instance, stretches, reads and then brushes his teeth at around the same time every night, the pattern will train the brain to expect to sleep.

Once he/she crawls into bed, the room should be quiet and dark. You want your child’s body to be able to fall asleep without a trigger like TV or music. Also, try to avoid having your child run a sleep deficit during the week and then “catching up” by sleeping all day during the weekend. Just like good eating and exercise habits, good sleep habits should be consistent to have any meaningful effect.

6. Know How to Handle Dental "Emergencies"

Back to school can lead to more play and you may experience a dental or orthodontic emergency. Knowing what to do makes all the difference! Orthodontic emergencies would be if your teeth are impacted to the point of extreme pain and/or a dislodged tooth. If your tooth is fully dislodged, please keep in your jaw or in a glass of milk and head to the ER.

If you feel discomfort or if a bracket comes loose, this is not an emergency but please make an appointment with our care team.

Smile Assurance Program: The Key To Preserving Your Smile After Treatment!

“Congratulations, You are done with your Orthodontic Treatment” says Dr. D. You immediately think “What’s next?” The answer is “Retainers!!!” Retainers are the secret to keeping your teeth aligned and that perfect, beautiful #BeeHappySmile preserved throughout the years!

Wearing a retainer helps keep your teeth in the correct place, so they don’t move or shift as time passes. Think of it this way: Braces straighten your teeth, but your retainer keeps them that way. They help your teeth “retain” their position. Whether you had metal braces or Invisalign aligners, you will need to wear retainers when they are removed.

Lucky for you, here at Bee Cave Orthodontics, we plan for the future too. One set of clear  retainers is always included in treatment with us. However, these need to be replaced every 3 years +/-. With our Smile Assurance program, the hassle of remembering when to replace or finding a provider is removed. Our “Smile Assurance Program” includes 4 pairs of retainers (total of 8 individuals) for a program term of 10 years. Clear Essix retainers are ALWAYS the only type of retainer provided with our Smile Assurance Program.

What are Essix Retainers?

Essix retainers are molded to your mouth, making it unique to the shape of your mouth. These retainers cover all of your teeth, allow natural settling, and keep your teeth guided into a position where the upper and lower sets are even, straight, and align with each other. Like your aligners used during treatment (if you opted for Invisalign, clear aligners etc.), Essix retainers should be removed when eating and drinking. They are a comfortable, no hassle way to keep your beautiful #beehappysmile in place. You may opt for a thicker material for an extra fee of $50 per retainer set but standard Essix retainers are extremely durable.

Here’s how it works?

After you complete treatment and opt for the Smile Assurance Program, you will receive your 3D printed models to save at home. When a replacement is needed, you will need to bring your 3D model to the office to request a new set of retainers to be made. You can even drop it off anytime you need another retainer made. It’s that easy!

It is very important to follow the instructions for retainer wear that Dr. Da Silveira provides at the time the retainers are given. It is also important to store your 3D models in a safe place. If you lose your model, it is $100 to replace.

So, what’s the investment?

Patients have 30 days from the day we deliver your final retainer (after your braces are removed) to opt into the Smile Assurance program for $880. Anything after 30 days, the investment is $1200 for the program.

& That’s it! One program. 10 years. You’re all set to keep your #BeeHappySmile straight, aligned, and beautiful for years to come.

We’re just a phone call away if you’ve completed treatment and would like more information about the Smile Assurance Program or if you’re planning treatment soon and want to add Smile Assurance to your post-treatment plan.

Come visit us at Bee Cave Orthodontics and we’ll get you started on your customized treatment plan, with a maintenance plan to last for years to come.

Orthodontic Treatment

Bee Cave Orthodontics Exclusive Treatment Plan Options

Like many things in life, getting started is the most difficult stage but YOU DID IT! Your child had their Orthodontic Evaluation. What’s next? Our highly trained orthodontist Dr. Adriana Da Silveira (Dr. D) will inform you of what can be achieved both cosmetically and functionally. We’re here to help and we care immensely.

Dental technology is always advancing, and as new orthodontic treatments become available, Bee Cave Orthodontics is on the cutting-edge. That’s good news for your smile. We use state-of-the-art treatment technology paired with years of expertise to successfully treat many dental issues.

If your or your child requires treatment, there are many different treatment types. If Dr. Da Silveira believes more than one option could work, each option will be discussed. You can view the many types of treatment options we provide here. These options included the most common form of braces today, metal braces, as well as Invisalign Treatment and clear braces, amongst other options.

What is the best option for your happy smile?

Our orthodontic treatment options are as diverse as our clients. What’s perfect for one patient may not be the best for others. Here at Bee Cave Orthodontics, we specialize in custom tailored treatment plans for each of our patients. Dr. D has over 20 years of experience working with children and adults. After your initial consultation, we will discuss which orthodontic treatment would be best for you, based on your care needs and smile goals. Below we’ll discuss our three most common treatment options.

Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign First is the perfect treatment for children ages 7-10 who need Phase 1 orthodontic treatment. Invisalign First utilizes the same advanced technology as regular Invisalign clear aligners so you expect the same high-quality results from this trusted brand! Children who are candidates for this effective and innovative treatment will not need to go through traditional orthodontic treatments such as metal expanders, headgear, and braces! Invisalign First is here to help children who experience issues with overcrowding, spacing, alignment, protrusions, arch development and expansion. It is also a great choice for patients with sensory processing, sensitivities, and other challenges when it comes to orthodontic treatment.

Is Bee Cave Orthodontics an Invisalign First Provider?

Yes! As an Invisalign Diamond Plus Provider, Dr. Adriana Da Silveira is is also an Invisalign First provider and public speaker on the treatment. We stay on top of the latest techniques and technology – including our iTero 3D scanner- to help create beautiful and healthy smiles at our Bee Cave office. Dr. D has given lectures nationally and internationally about this topic, including most recently in Thailand at the University of Mahidol in Bangkok, at the Invisalign Summit in Las Vegas and at the American Association of Orthodontists in Miami. Dr D travels around the country teaching other orthodontists and their teams on how to best use this amazing treatment option to correct little bites and transform smiles.

Invisalign for Teens and Adults

Straightening your teeth with Invisalign can be a great option if you are concerned about your appearance and don’t want to look different from your friends. Invisalign created a system that meets the unique needs of teens and adults. Invisalign can be a great clear option for teens or adults shying away from metal braces. The Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic and almost invisible. Your friends probably won’t even know you’re wearing them so you’ll enjoy the confidence of showing that smile every day.

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are the traditional orthodontic option for tooth straightening and correcting. Since they are set in the mouth for a long duration of time, metal braces are usually made of materials that provide sufficient strength and resistance to corrosion, commonly stainless steel or titanium alloys. They may be a great option for patients that are not a candidate for Invisalign or for those that know they will not wear their retainers as regularly as they should.

Invisalign (Left) vs. Traditional Metal Braces (Right) - Orthodontic Treatment Options
Bee Cave Orthodontics 3D Printed Custom Clear Braces (LightForce)

Clear braces are similar to traditional metal braces. However, because they’re made with tooth-colored materials, they’re less noticeable. Clear braces can correct the same orthodontic issues as metal braces, including overbites, underbites, crooked teeth and crowding. We offer customized 3D printed clear braces through our partner LightForce. LightForce is an ingenious advancement in bracket systems. In fact, it’s one of the most cutting-edge technologies to hit the orthodontic industry in decades and not all providers offer this unique treatment option. Each bracket is designed to fit the teeth perfectly. Custom brackets results in a perfect fit and can also mean fewer emergencies, since the braces adhere more precisely. A detailed treatment plan is provided for each client using digital planning software, exclusively for the needs of every unique smile.

What To Expect At Your First Orthodontist Appointment

What to expect at your first orthodontist appointment?

Your first orthodontist visit is the most important step towards preparing for orthodontic treatment and improving your smile. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children see their orthodontist for a “Phase 1 Orthodontic Evaluation” between the ages of 7 and 8.  Initial consultations are important because they allow the orthodontist to get a clear understanding of any issues that may be present, and then to formulate the most ideal treatment plan to correct those issues. If these issues have the opportunity to fully develop, your child’s orthodontic issues can become more complex.

In the lead up to your exam, it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous or scared.  Having accurate information about what to expect during your first appointment will help prepare you for your free consultation.

Introduction

A proper introduction creates a lasting first impression and is valuable to any first experience. Here at Bee Cave Orthodontics, we want to make sure you feel comfortable working with our team, so we will make sure to greet you upon arrival, introduce our staff, and give you a tour of the office, conveniently located at 11412 Bee Cave Rd, Suite 300 in Austin, Texas.

Paperwork and Relevant History

A member of our team will ask you to fill out paperwork regarding your current dentists information and any helpful health history. It will also inform us of the last time you had x-rays, your last relevant consultation, and previous issues you may have experienced.

Exam and Imaging Utilizing 3D Scanner

Next, the orthodontic staff will need to take a panoramic x-ray and photographic images of the mouth. Digital images help orthodontists make accurate diagnoses. Here at BeeCave Orthodontics, we use advanced imaging technology such as the iTero 3D Scanner. The use of the 3D scanner has changed the world of orthodontics. With the help of these digital machines, orthodontists can easily scan the patient’s mouth and use digital impressions to create an individualized dental treatment. An intraoral scanner takes pictures of the patient’s teeth and soft tissue and “stitches” those pictures together, in the right order, to create a 3D digital image of the patient’s mouth. No more gooey impressions that make everyone gag! Yuck!

Bee Cave Orthodontics Invisalign for adults and kids in Austin

Once the images have been completed, our expert orthodontist Dr. Adriana Da Silveira “Dr. D” will then do a comprehensive physical exam of the teeth, jaw, and face to ensure everything is developing the way it should. Dr. D has practiced for the last 20 years and has served as Chief of Orthodontics for Dell Children’s since 2008. Her expertise has been caring for children born with cleft lip and palate, craniofacial syndromes, cases that require jaw surgery, cases of sleep apnea, and children with special needs. No case is too hard or too difficult for Dr. D and her vast history of providing expert orthodontic care. Each child, each person, and each smile is unique, so each treatment is personalized – one size doesn’t fit all for orthodontics and Dr. D takes each patient’s care very seriously.

Treatment Plans

Once the exam and images are complete, our orthodontic expert Dr. Adriana Da Silveira, “Dr. D” will discuss if your child needs to move forward with “Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment” to address any issues. Not all children will need early orthodontic treatment, but it’s best to consult with an orthodontist so we can get ahead of any potential issues and formulate a plan. This plan may mean waiting for more permanent teeth to erupt before starting any treatment, as only about 20% of children at the age of 7 require early “Phase I Orthodontic treatment.” Here at Bee Cave Orthodontics, we offer yearly checkups for your child so we can help monitor until orthodontic treatment timing is right for your child.

Your child may benefit from “Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment” if you notice any of these issues:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowding
  • Gapped teeth
  • Protruding teeth
  • Teeth that don’t touch
  • Habits that could affect their dental development (such as thumb sucking)
  • Speaking issues
  • Breathing issues

Questions

We encourage you to ask questions along the way. We are here to provide you with all of your options and to help you understand each one of them.

We hope this information is useful as you prepare for your first orthodontist appointment. Our goal is to develop young jaws and/or arches to make room for existing teeth and for incoming permanent teeth. As always, Dr. D. will design a customized digital treatment plan for your child to address their needs when they’re ready for treatment and will be here every step along the way.
